Forgive me for starting with a not-very-clever rewording of an old expression, but today”almost all news is good news” when you are trying to create visibility for your organization or organization. I will tell you how you can create valuable information releases from information which you may not believe has worth and get it published. That just about any information can be turned into articles for offline and online publications, gaining invaluable visibility for your business or organization.Conventional news releases — or media releases as they used to be called back when actual presses were utilized by real news organizations to print news – needed to vie for limited space on a printed page. Typically, that limited newsworthiness to stories about new products or services, new technologies, or major organizational news.Today, however, the concept of”information” has shifted radically. Publishing space is almost infinite and publishers hungry for content. These days, many of the stumbling blocks have disappeared that were once between people creating news and the outlets that published it. It is easier than ever now to get your news published in a variety of places. The trick is writing something that will be of sufficient interest for someone to pick it up and publish it.Picking a subject These themes generally could be considered”hard” information and worthy of broad distribution, when possible.You will find a host of other topics, however, that many people don’t believe to market with an information release, but that make perfect”soft” news releases. These topics include trade show and seminar appearances, awards, company anniversaries, new customer wins, capital equipment purchases, and new capacities. While a business publication editor may consider these topics too self-serving to warrant book, there are still good reasons to write a release on them, as you’ll soon see. Interview key staff in your organization and your industry trade association about your market or business and publish their insights. Then write a release regarding the crucial findings, announcing the availability of the report for download on your site.
